Hair Regrowth Treatment for Women that Really Works

by on July 14, 2014 in Hair Loss Treatment

No woman wants to be ugly in any way. This is why hair loss can cause utter panic in her. The truth is there are many women who suffer from pattern hair loss. And an even uglier truth is that it can torment her as early as 20 years old. Fortunately, hair regrowth treatment for women is possible.

There are several alternatives to choose from to treat the condition.

But what causes female hair loss? What are some of the best hair regrowth treatments for women? Here are just a few.

Causes of Female Pattern Hair Loss

  • Hereditary Factor

Female pattern baldness can be genetic, just like male pattern baldness. The reasons as to why some have strong histories of hair loss than others are yet to be known. Yes, hereditary factors to hair loss still need scientific trekking.

  • Hormonal Factor

The reason hair loss is more common to men than in women is testosterone. But while women also produce testosterone in the Adrenal glands and the ovaries, estrogen and progesterone fight dihydrotestosterone (DHT) build-up, however not entirely. DHT is a derivative of testosterone that kills the hair follicles. Without saying, DHT is the main perpetrator. Unfortunately, even low levels of DHT can already cause hair loss in women.

  • Menopause

Hair loss is an even dreadful coming during menopause. Because estrogen production slows down, DHT builds up at higher levels – accelerating hair loss in menopausal women. Treatment for hair loss usually involves medication.

  • Pregnancy

The number of hair that goes into telogen or resting phase increases during pregnancy. Telogen phase is the stage when hair loss is normal. Usually, however, women only experience excessive thinning of hair after delivery mostly because of nutritional deficiency.

The Most Effective Hair Regrowth Treatment for Women

  • Minoxidil

Minoxidil is a topical solution that can be advised to women with Androgenic Alopecia, or female pattern baldness. It needs to be applied twice a day on the balding region. Minoxidil is an anagen-inductor; hence, a good hair regrowth treatment for women as it makes hair follicles go into the ‘growth’ phase. This is how it restores the hair.

Minoxidil has its own disadvantages.  It doesn’t halt DHT production although it works on the miniaturised hair follicles. Also, it has side-effects that may include but not limited to nausea, allergic reactions, and lightheadedness.

  • Hormone Replacement Therapy

Menopausal women with pattern baldness usually undergo hormone replacement therapy to treat their baldness. HRT is an estrogen/progestin medication. The combination of estrogen and progestin creates a balancing effect because prescribing estrogen alone can cause endometrial cancer.

  • Laser Therapy

Laser therapy is also another hair regrowth treatment for women with alopecia. Laser therapy is a non-drug and non-surgical hair loss and hair regrowth treatment for women and also for men. It uses a cold laser light that nourishes the dermal cells on the scalp.

Treatment for hair loss can take time with laser therapy. Laser therapy used to be only performed in hair clinics but today laser combs are available. Laser combs allow the patient to undergo laser therapy in the comforts of their own home.
