Hair Loss Treatments in Non – Surgical Ways

by on August 11, 2014 in Hair Loss Treatment

Balding men and women will try anything possible to them to regrow the hair they’ve lost. Hair loss is indeed damaging not only to one’s image but also to the morale. Fortunately now, there are a lot of viable alternatives to choose from.

These are non surgical hair loss treatments which are effective in combating the devastating effects of hair loss.

There are two FDA-approved medications: Minoxidil lotion and oral Finasteride. Minoxidil and Finasteride are strong hair loss drugs that literally go to the root of the problem.

Minoxidil is a topical solution which was introduced more than 20 years ago as an agent that regrows hair. This drug works on miniaturised hair follicles by forcing them to go into anagen phase, the crucial stage wherein new strands of hair grow. The problem with Minoxidil, however, is that is doesn’t stop dihydrotestosterone (DHT) production. DHT is the primary hormone that wants the normal hair dead. Other non surgical hair loss treatments are very effective DHT inhibitors.

Minoxidil can have side-effects such as vomiting, allergic reactions, lightheadedness, etc. So before a patient uses Minoxidil, it is only wise to seek professional advice and or make a complete background check about the product whether it is appropriate for them.

Unlike Minoxidil, Finasteride is an oral treatment and is a DHT inhibitor of type II 5-alpha reductase. Finasteride, therefore, impedes the process of hair loss. In fact, many practitioners recommend this drug.

Finasteride may only be recommended to men because of its possible physiological effects on women, especially pregnant and lactating ones.  More so, it is reported to reduce the sex drive.

Laser Therapy is Non Surgical Hair Loss Treatments

One of the most common non surgical hair loss treatments is laser therapy. Laser therapy uses a certain light source that improves the condition of living cells. It is low level laser or a cold laser that cannot produce heat. As a non-surgical hair loss treatment, it increases mitochondrial and ATP production. Better blood circulation will occur, thereby inducing hair regrowth.  According to a European study regarding hair loss, low level

laser has stopped the course of hair loss in 85% of cases while allowed regrowth in 55% of cases. Laser therapy does not require medication and has no reported side-effects.

Low level laser therapy has always been performed in hair clinics and salons. But a few years ago, consumer devices that use the same non-surgical hair loss treatment technique were introduced for both women and men fighting the progression of hair loss. These are medical tools that give the patients the convenience of home-use at a one-time expense. On the downside, a patient may have to depend on these products for an uncertain period of time. Plus, the results may take time to reveal so patience is very much needed.

A surgery is not always the only option. There are non surgical hair loss treatments which are non-invasive and probably safer and more effective than surgical.
